Shrek The Musical - Latest News!
The Grand Theatre have emailed ticket holders for Shrek The Musical with the message below. BOP have worked closely with the Grand during this emergency to offer the best options going forward for all ticket holders.
We're so sorry! The event you booked for, Shrek The Musical, has been cancelled due to Coronavirus (COVID-19).
In response to the Prime Minister’s statement, we regret to inform you Blackpool Grand, along with other UK Theatres has closed for an undetermined time.
We understand this will be a huge disappointment to many. As with many businesses we are following the advice and instruction of government advice.
However some good news! The same company will be presenting Kinky Boots (March 2021), the winner of six Tony Awards including Best Musical. The show features a joyous, Tony-winning score by Cyndi Lauper and a hilarious, uplifting book by four-time Tony winner Harvey Fierstein.
Charlie Price has reluctantly inherited his father's shoe factory, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. Trying to live up to his father's legacy and save his family business, Charlie finds inspiration in the form of Lola. A fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos, Lola turns out to be the one person who can help Charlie become the man he's meant to be. As they work to turn the factory around, this unlikely pair finds that they have more in common than they ever dreamed possible... and discovers that when you change your mind about someone, you can change your whole world.
Kinky Boots is full of elaborate costumes, exhilarating choreography and a truly moving and powerful story. A sure-fire crowd pleaser, Kinky Boots will have audiences dancing in the aisle and discovering why sometimes, the best way to fit in is to stand out!
We will be in touch to see if you wish to move to the new show, or obtain a credit or refund.
We kindly request you NOT to contact the box office. Our sales team will contact you to arrange a move of show, 12-month credit voucher or refund whichever you prefer. If we are unable to get hold of you(we will try by email and/or call) as we have hundreds of people to contact, we will try and leave a message, to advise we have credited your account. If you’d prefer the money to be refunded ONLY THEN contact the box office, BY EMAIL ONLY [email protected]
We are receiving an unprecedented volume of calls, emails and social messages and we will deal with your query as soon as possible, but please do expect to wait.
As like many of you, we would ask you to appreciate our box office is being manned by our fantastic team from their homes. Some of which are having to care for others or teach their children, so please #BeKind and bear with them.
Best Wishes,

Our 2021 Show!
Planning starts well in advance for BOP's annual production at the Grand Theatre and, while rehearsals for our 2020 production, Shrek The Musical, are building towards our performances from 8th - 11th April 2020, we are already looking forward to planning for our 2021 show, Kinky Boots.
This well-known West End show has a cult following and offers an uplifting story and great entertainment for all fans of musical theatre. Auditions will take place in October 2020 and new members are welcome to join us......
Come and Join Us!
BOP is always looking to welcome new members to join us for our shows. We welcome dancers, singers and actors who are interested in auditioning for a show. In general members who wish to take part must be 16 years old or over (dependent on the show in production) and be willing to commit to a schedule of regular rehearsals running from October each year through to the show in April. If you are interested in joining us click here to register.
Cantiamo
A talented group of BOP’s members have formed Cantiamo, an entertainment group, with a flexible programme of popular and well-known songs from smash-hit musicals, to perform at events across the Fylde and surrounding areas. Most recently Cantiamo was invited to entertain volunteers and staff at a Volunteers Appreciation Evening at Trinity Hospice in Bispham. Their performance was very well received with a rare standing ovation from almost 500 attendees!
Lorraine Oxley, Volunteering & Community Engagement Manager at Trinity Hospice said:
“Trinity was delighted to welcome back Blackpool Operatic Players who provided fantastic entertainment for our wonderful volunteers. A fabulous night thoroughly enjoyed by all. We hope they will return!”
The Concert Party are increasingly in demand and are now building a schedule of performances. If you would like to register interest in booking the group to enhance your event, please click here for further details.
